RECOGNISING THE SYMPTOMS OF THE 'VANISHING MAN'

In No Particular Order ...

  • He feels lost
  • He feels broken
  • He’s unsure of where he is
  • He knows there’s something wrong but doesn’t know how to move forward
  • He’s lost his confidence
  • He’s lost his identity
  • He’s hurting
  • He’s emotionally unavailable to those that need him
  • He’s hurting those around him without meaning to
  • Hurting those he loves makes him hurt more (circular firing squad)
  • He realises that he's not been seeing the plight of those around him
  • He’s struggling to go back.
  • He can’t operate in the now
  • He can’t see the future
  • He’s not a total basket case - he can still do things that he’s good at
  • He can’t see the point in doing a role that he’s not best at
  • He’s casting around for purpose
  • He masks his pain with anesthetic of YouTube, social media or other distractions
  • He may have lost connection to partner and family
  • He’s stopped moving
  • He’s forgotten who he is
  • He feels alone even when surrounded by loved ones
  • He can still be sociable but dreads large gatherings
  • He struggles to admit that anything is wrong
  • He feels untethered from his life
  • He cannot respond to being told he’s loved / he’s great. It makes him feel worse
